I sat down with my book in hand talking to myself saying that today would be different, I would get let out today. Now I've said that every day since I woke up approximately 29 days ago (I've been putting up tally marks every time I woke up or the clock beeped). After I sat down and started to read I heard a knock on the door or so I thought, but I just passed it off as some random crap blowing against the door. I drew my quilt towards me and shivered; why couldn’t I have some kind of heat!? I went back to my book, ignoring the sound, But the sound came again, louder and I swear I could hear voices. I got up, disposing of my book completely. I walked to the door, touching the smooth, warm metal. Wait, warm? How could it be warm? It was freezing in the rest of the room; how was it warm here? Now I had never dared touch the door because the video had told me not to. I could hear a banging on the door, hard and urgent and a muffled voice pleading on the other side. I was conflicted between opening the door or just leaving it be. Another set of knocks came harder and more urgent. Finally i decided to open the door without any thought to the consequences ahead.
The door dropped down to reveal 3 figures. Two of them were standing and supporting the third person. There was sand everywhere and a wave of heat hit me and covered me in sand. The two figure laid the third person down, I rushed to go get the quilt that still lay on the ground I placed it under the person then quickly rushed to close the door.
When I looked back at the people there were three in total, two girls and a boy. One of the girls lay on my quilt bleeding all over it. (I’m still keeping it.) The second girl and the boy stood there looking at me with curiosity and caution.
“Ummm, hi…” I said awkwardly
The girl looked up. She looked to be about 12 or so with purple eyes, glasses and and hat over her long hair that appeared to go down to the bottom of her rib cage. Now her hair was black and purple curls that fell down and over her shoulders swimming down her back. She wore a jacket that had a familiar symbol printed on the front and back of it. She appeared to be 5’2 or so and had some of the palest skin I’ve ever seen.
The boy looked almost exactly like the girl but a tad bit taller, appearing to be about 5’2 ½. He looked to be 12 as well and had black hair that looked like it had been taken and forced to one side of his head that was dyed a dark blue and the side without all his hair was close cut. He had green eyes instead of purple but was just as pale. He wore glasses as well as a black jacket like his…….sister?
"Hi there," the boy said with kindness in his voice.
The girl just nodded towards me
"Thanks for helping us," he said "I’m James and this is my twin sister Rocky," he said, motioning towards the girl standing beside him. She nodded towards my direction. I gave her a smile. She nodded again.
"Don’t worry about it," he whispered. "She doesn't care to talk, it wastes oxygen according to her."
"And this is Marina," he said, nodding towards the girl on my quilt
She had short tightly curled hair that was brown until it got to an inch or so and then it was a bleached light blue. She was tan and wore a blue plaid shirt with shorts and a yellow tank top. She looked to be 13 and about 5’3. She was badly injured, possessing many scrapes
"Will she be okay?" I asked with alarm in my voice.
"Yeah," James said smiling down at Marina. "She will just need a good night's sleep if you don’t mind, that is," he said.
"Nope don’t mind at all it looks horrible out there," I said, trying to pry as much information as I could out of him.
"Meh, it's windy. When you decide to run west away from złymi potworami you don’t really have a sense of direction so we ran carrying Marina with us away from our path, so we ended up in this desert area. Did you know your pod is in the middle of what used to be England?" He spoke with a British Irish accent that didn’t mix well but still sounded fine when it came out of his mouth.
"Well, if you and umm…"
"Rocky," he said, reminding me of her name.
"Ah, thanks, if you and Rocky would like to sleep on the cots I can make some kind of flame and sleep near it."
"It’s cool man, Rocky is probably going to take first watch anyway. She won't let us take it because she doesn't trust us," he said laughing.
"Well I could help her," I said trying to be helpful.
"If she lets you, man that would be a miracle, \" he said, the laughter still in his eyes.
"Well I’ll go make the fire," I said walking off. I felt I could trust these people and if not? Well my bad.
